On last week I manage to setup 3 servers that is web server, database server and a file server. Then bring the servers to Technology Park Malaysia Data Center to get it online. After assign the IP address, I rush to get home because it was too late already.
Waking up that morning with all curiosity either the 3 servers was fine or not. I manage to logging into those server by remote desktop. Yeaaaaahhhh, let start to work!!!
But when switching between server, I easily get confused because the interface are all the same. It was hard to remember either the server currently used is web, database or file server.
I tried to distinguished them with a different background colour, but it make things worst. I forgot which colour assigned for those servers. Hurrmm… my last resort was to differentiate the server using wallpaper that written the server role.. Follow the step bellow and you’ll see a wall paper on your “Remote Desktop“ed server.
Configuring the Server to Show Wallpaper
- Start > Run >
- Type “mmc“

- A Microsoft Management Console will be opened.
- Click File > Add / Remove Snap-in
- An add / remove snap-in dialog will appear

- Click Add
- A list of standalone snap-in will appear
- Select “Group Policy Object Editor“, and click Add, then Finish

- Click Close, then OK.
- “Local Computer Policy” tree will be displayed
- Navigate to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Component > Terminal Services
- Double click on “Enforce Removal of Remote Desktop Wallpaper“

- The “Enforce Removal of Remote Desktop Wallpaper” setting dialog box will appear.
- Select Enable
- Click OK

- Exit Microsoft Management Console and don’t save the console setting
Configuring Client to See Wallpaper
- Run a Remote Desktop (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications)
- Click Option

- Several tab appear
- Click the Experience tab
